Kenya to host 2018 CHAN
Football Kenya Federation has today announced that Kenya has been granted the rights to host the 2018 CHAN Championships.
In a statement sent out to newsrooms on Monday afternoon, FKF Chairman Sam Nyamweya said they have received official communication from CAF after a successful bidding process.
The statement says the decision to award Kenya the hosting rights was passed by a special CAF Executive Committee meeting held in Cairo Egypt on Friday 21st February 2014
“FKF wishes to tremendously thank the president of CAF Dr. Issa Hayatou and the entire CAF Executive committee for bestowing us this honour only a few days after our successful meeting in Cape Town where we presented our bid.” The statement reads in part.
Nyamweya adds that, “This is a great milestone in the growth journey of Kenyan football and we are indeed gratified and honored to have successfully bid to host this great showpiece that will give the Kenyan people an opportunity to host the continent through the game of football.”
In this regard Nyamweya has challenged County Governments to put in place good infrastructure that will place them in good positions to earn the rights to host the tournament.
Of main concern is the setting up of good stadia, hospitality industry development and transport.
A delegation from CAF is expected in the country to start early set up of logistics in preparation for the big tournament.
