GOtv unveiled official Cecafa Cup title sponsors
Pay satellite television channel GOtv will be unveiled as the title sponsor for the 2013 Council of East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup championships set to kick off in Nairobi next Wednesday.
Coca Cola, Techno, SuperSport, UAP Insurance will also sponsors the championships that has attracted 12 nations including former African champions Zambia.
The Government which will be marking 50 years of self rule on the finals of the Cecafa championships on December 12 is also financing the tournament in a big way according the Football Kenya Federation president Sam Nyamweya.
Nyamweya said everything was in place for the championships that will be staged in Nairobi, Machakos, Kisumu and Mombasa. Nyayo Stadium will stage the final.
“The Kenya government has promised to fund the competition and at the same time ensure there is proper security for all the teams, fans and guess who will grace the tournament,” Nyamweya said at a press conference in Nairobi on Wednesday.
Nyamweya is still hopeful Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Issa Hayatou will grace some of the matches including the finals.
“We are in constant communication with Hayatou. CAF is fully supportive of us and we hope he will grace the tournament. He has a busy schedule we understand.”
Rwanda starts the tournament with Uganda in the opening game of Group C of the competition at the Kenyatta stadium
Group A has Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Zanzibar; Group B has Tanzania, Burundi, Zambia and Eritrea while holders Uganda, Sudan, Rwanda and Somalia and in Group D.
Teams are expected to start arriving on Monday while the referees will be in the country on Saturday.
Kenya started residential training at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani since Tuesday under Coach Adel Amrouche. Kenya are gunning for their first title since 2002.
