Yanga, Flambeau, Coffee out of Kagame Cup
Reigning Burundi champions Flambeau de l’est,and Coffee of Ethiopia have pulled out of the upcoming CecafaKagame Club Championships, due August 8-24, in Kigali.
This was confirmed by the council’s Secretary General Nicholas Musonye who later confirmed that the two have already been replaced by teams from the respective nations.
Coffee FC, who won the Ethiopian league last season, have been replaced by Adama City FC, Azam for Yangawhile Flambeau de L’est’s place goes to Atletico from the same nation.
Meanwhile, teams started arriving in Kigali on Wednesday and Thursday. El Merreikh, GorMahia, Benadir are arriving on Wednesday.
South Sudan’s’Atlabara, Zanzibar’s KMKM are also arriving on Wednesday.GorMahiawill open her campaign against KCCA on Friday 8th August before taking on Flambeau on Monday 11th then take on APR on 15th and wind up against Telecom of Djibouti on 17th Sunday.
President Paul Kagame, patron of Cecafa, has sponsored the regional club championship to the tune of US$60,000 in cash prize annually since 2002.
