Amavubi coach Constantine dubs Kagame Cup a distraction
Amavubi head coach Briton Stephen Constantine has termed the on-going CecafaKagame Cup a distraction as far as his plans for the Africa Cup of Nations group stage qualifiers are concerned.
He said recently that the regional tournament has reduced the time period he will have the players for preparations ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations group stage qualifiers that commences on September 6 away to Nigeria.
“I will use 98 per cent locally based players in our campaign which I am more than happy to continue with. I think they have taken us this far and they deserve to have the opportunity to play in these games,” explained Constantine.
“Most of them are taking part in the CecafaKagame Cup and honestly this is a distraction. This means that I won’t get the time I want or need with the players so the camp will begin on August 31.”
Rwanda’s first game is away to Nigeria before hosting Sudan at home on September 10 at the Kigali Regional stadium.
Pooled in Group A, Rwanda expects to make it out of the pool that also has South Africa. The top two teams in this group will qualify automatically for the Africa Cup of Nations that will be hosted in Morocco next year.
