Rivals clash in big derby
Musanze vs. Amagaju (Musanze)
Marines vs. Mukura (Umuganda)
Esperance vs. APR (Mumena)
DEFENDING champions Rayon Sports play away to SC Kiyovu in the first derby of the 2013/14 Turbo King Football League due this Saturday afternoon at Amahoro national stadium.
The blues go into today’s match without two of their key men; skipper Fuadi Ndayisenga and central defender Faustin Usengimana who is out of the season with a crocked leg.
However, Coach Didier Gomes da Rosa is optimistic that his side can still secure maximum points from rivals Kiyovu when the two sides go head to head.
Gomes who has started a full year with Rayon Sports and is focused on helping the Nyanza-based team retain the league title said that his boys have showed remarkable “mental strength and right attitude” and can get the job done against the Gilbert ‘Yaounde’ Kanyankole coached side.
“I have very good players, they are thirsty for success and I like the spirit and attitude they have exhibited both in training and against Gicumbi in the opening match,”
“You get the feeling that they are committed. Even with key players out, I am positive that if we put that kind of performance we can triumph against them (Kiyovu).”
Gomes hopes to get solution for injured Usengimana in Abouba Sibomana and Iddi Nshimiyimana while the presence Meddie Kagere, Papy Kamanzi, Frasson Jakeshi, Aphrodis Hategikimana and Cedric Amissi will be staked to destabilize the old giants.
“SC Kiyovu is among the league favourites with very good new players. We are determined because in case of win, our opponents will be 5 points behind us,” added Gomes.
Rivals SC Kiyovu who were forced to a 1-all draw away to SC Kiyovu will be hoping to rely on Christian Mbirizi, Girukwishaka brothers (Jean and Michel) but will miss Lule Yussuf Ndayishimiye who is yet to secure his ITC.
Coach Kanyankole sounded positive after Thursday evening’s training session held at Mumena turf saying that his side is well prepared for the derby clash.
“It is will be a tough challenging game but worth to watch because both sides have a reason to win. We want a win and the best side will sweat for it,” added the former Vital’O coach.
Rayon Sports will be facing their former coach who guided them to the semi final of the Cecafa Kagame cup held in Mwanza, Tanzania in 2005.
On the other hand, all eyes will be on Gad Niyonshuti and Pekeyake Tuyisenge who want to prove to their former employee that they made a mistake in offloading them.
Last season, Rayon Sports won all their four league matches against Kiyovu. While last month, both sides drew in a friendly match 2-2 before Rayon Sports whipped the Mumena-based 3-0 to lift the Media Rwanda Football tourney.
The Nyanza-based side is currently placed 5th on the log with three points, two points ahead of SC Kiyovu who are in sixth position with one point after the first round of the season.
Other matches on card include a tough outing for Police to home side Gicumbi. Sam Ssimbwa’s side will be out for a win to maintain their bright start.
However, Coach Jean Baptista Kayiranga will be eager to avoid a second loss of the season after a 0-2 loss to Rayon Sports last week.
AS Kigali who also had a perfect start to the season with a 2-0 win over Amagaju face a stern test against Emmanuel Ruremesha’s side Espoir in Rusizi.
AS Muhanga who had a poor start to the season with a 0-4 loss to Mukura face a might test against Etincelles in Rubavu. Etincelles are boosted with a point secured from a goalless draw against Espoir.
Action will resume on Sunday when thirteen-time league champion APR play away to new comers Esperance at Mumena stadium. The military side opened the season with a 6-2 win over Marines and Andreas Spier’s boys are eager to start from where they finished when they face Esperance who suffered a 2-0 win over Police.
Marines host Mukura Victory Sports who have been cautioned by their coach Cedric Kaze to Keep the eye on the 2013/14 Turbo King National Football League title following their impressive 4-0 opening day win over AS Muhanga.
The Huye-based side, which finished fourth last season, dominated the match in Muhanga as Kaze registered his first win against his counterpart Ali Bizimungu since joining Mukura last season. New signing Emmanuel Minani scored a brace, while Claude Nahimana and Noah Byimana scored the other two goals.
Kaze stated that he will not underestimate any club. He said last week, “We are not in the league to follow others, we are in it to win. It is never easy for any other team apart from Rayon Sports and APR but we are determined to give them a run for their money.”
He said Mukura is a big team that should be winning trophies. The Yellow and Black side has not won any silverware since 1994. The club which was founded in the early 1960s has never won the league Title. However the team has four major trophies under its belt won from the Peace Cup (Rwanda Cup) in 1963, 1978, 1986, 1990 and 1992.
To break the league jinx, Kaze and his troops will have to contend with the power, experience and near total dominance of the country’s most successful club, APR FC as well as the most supported, second-most successful and the reigning champions, Rayon Sports.
