Soudani goal gives Algeria victory
A goal by El Araby Soudani gave Algeria a 1-0 win over Mali in their final World Cup Qualifying group stage match.
Soudani scored the only goal of the match at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium on Tuesday evening which came early in the second half of the encounter.
Of course, going into the game Algeria had already secured their place in the next phase on the road to Brazil 2014.
The North Africans won their group with a match to spare as they now go into preparation for their playoff games for the month of October and November.
The first half lacked genuine spark with both sides failing to convert their scoring chances. At halftime the match was deadlocked at 0-0 and it seemed like the game was heading for a draw.
But just six minutes into the second half and the local fans had something to cheer to as Soudani netted to give the Desert Foxes the lead in the 53rd minute of the match.
It was to be the only goal of the match as the CAF Zone World Cup qualifiers move onto the play-off stages to determine the five African countries which will represent Africa in Brazil.
Algeria finish at the top of their group on 15 points followed by Mali and Benin who are both on eight points apiece with Rwanda rounding off Group H on two points.
Algeria will wait for the draw to be held early next week to see who they will play in the final phase of qualifying.
