Sudan reach Cecafa finals
Sudan rallied from a goal down in extra time to floor Zambia 2-1 in the first semi-final of the 2013 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup at the Mombasa County Stadium on Tuesday.
After a barren 90 minutes of play and the first half of extra time, Zambia took the lead in the 113th minute when Ronald Kampamba scored from close range.
But the celebrations were short-lived as Sudan levelled four minutes later when second half substitute Miaaz Abdelrahim found the back of the net after a fine cross from Amier Kamal.
Cheered on by Mombasa fans, Sudan snatched their winning goal with two minutes to go when Salah Ibrahim received a fine cross from the man of the match second half substitute Mohamed Abdelmonem to slam the ball past beaten Zambian goalkeeper Nsabata Toaster.
The game started brightly with both teams trying to get an early goal. It was Zambia who started to dictate terms when they missed their first golden scoring chance in the 11th minute when Felix Katongo sent a powerful shot which was brilliantly saved by Sudan custodian Abdelrahman Ali.
Sudan received their first opportunity in the 24th minute as striker Eltayeb Nadir received a fine pass from Faris Abdalla who however missed with only goalkeeper Toster Nsabata to beat.
From then till half time, the game was mainly played in midfield with both goalkeepers being idle.
In the second half, Sudan came more into the picture making attack after another for the first 15 minutes where they had three scoring chances which they wasted through Ameir Kamal in the 55th minute, and twice by Faris Abdalla in the 57th and 61st minute.
Zambia then recovered and in the 67th minute and could have taken the lead when Sydney Kalume sent a powerful drive which beat Ali but hit the post and went out for a free kick.
