Arsenal win appeals for both Gibbs and Oxlade-Chamberlain
Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will both be available to face Swansea after they won their appeals over the controversial red card on Saturday.
Gibbs was sent off for a handball by Oxlade-Chamberlain in the game at Chelsea and has as expected been relieved of any further punishment on the grounds of mistaken identity.
The red card and its consequences were transferred to Gibbs’ Arsenal and England team-mate, but the Gunners were also successful in their wrongful dismissal appeal.
They argued that the handball by ‘The Ox’, while deliberate and worthy of a booking, was not preventing a clear goalscoring opportunity as the shot was set to sail harmlessly wide.
Both players will thus be up for selection when Arsene Wenger’s men host Swansea City at the Emirates on Tuesday, where they will hope to bounce back from the 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Chelsea.
