Amavubi edge Libya in Kigali

Striker Daddy Birori scored a hat-trick for Amavubi

Daddy Birori’s hat-trick powered Rwanda into the second round of the 2015 Africa Nations Cup qualifying campaign.

Rwanda defeated Libya 3-0 on Saturday with all goings scored by AS Vita Striker Dady Birori on 38th, 65th and 75th minutes respectively.

Unlike in previous games, Amavubi played with new-found confidence as they dominated Libya for almost the whole match with the effects of the work of the new coach felt all over the pitch.

Rwanda started like a bush on fire and striker Michel Ndahinduka had the ball in the back of the net four minutes after Birori’s opener, but it was disallowed for allegedly fouling the Libya goalkeeper.

The first goal arrived when Birori instinctly headed home a cross from right back Michel Rusheshangoga and the DR Congo-born striker scored the second goal in similar fashion, this the cross came from his strike partner Ndahinduka.

The former Mukura Victory Sports forward, Birori, completed his first international hat-trick with a third header off the impressive Rusheshangoga’s cross, which was very similar to his assist for the opening goal.

Rwanda will face either Namibia or Congo Brazzaville in the next round. Congo and Nambia are playing return leg today in Congo. Namibia won the first leg 1-0. Then whoever wins that tie will book a place in Group A, to face Nigeria, South Africa and Sudan.

Rwanda drew against Libya in first leg held in Tunis, Tunisia. In second leg, Constantine’s side was great and dominated the game.

But it was Birori, who made the joy for the large crowd at Kigali Regional Stadium and he fully deserved his big applause when he was placed by Rodriguez Murengezi midway through the second half.

Libya’s two good few chances came in first and second half from defender, Osama Grint, Hamdou Elnouni and striker Ahmad Mohammed, who had chances to score goals but failed to beat goalie Jean Claude Ndoli on both occasions.
