APR face Rayon in Cecafa Kagame Cup Quarters
RWANDA’S TRADITIONAL rivals APR and Rayon Sports will meet in the quarter final of the 2014 edition of the Cecafa Kagame Cup slated for Tuesday at Kigali Regional Stadium.
The quarter final line-up was completed after Sunday’s Group B matches where APR lost 1-0 to Uganda’s KCCA to finish second in the group with seven points, two behind the Ugandan champions.
Atletico also sealed a quarter final spot after bottom-placed Gor Mahia forced a 2-all draw against Telecom of Djibouti to deny them a much-needed victory.
Atletico who finished third with six points will face Group C winners Police in the first quarter final match on Tuesday.
KCCA will then face Atlabara of South Sudan on Wednesday while Tanzanian champions Azam will take on Sudanese El Merreikh.
Against APR, Steven Bengo’s stunning free kick in the 70th minute earned KCCA maximum points as the military side wasted several goal scoring opportunities which could have decided the game earlier.
In an earlier played match, Gor Mahia of Kenya winded up their group stage action with two points after forcing a 2-all draw against Telecom.
Bobby Williamson’s side was forced to come from behind twice after conceding a 39th minute goal through Aboubakar Djama. Timothy Otieno leveled for the Kenyanzs twenty minutes later.
Telecom then grabbed the second goal courtesy of Freddy Andashango’s penalty in the 74th minute but as the Djibouti side was assured of a victory, Musa Mohamed snatched the equalizer for Gor Mahia to end Telecom’s bid of reaching the last eight.
