Algeria, Morocco arrive for Afcon

Both Algeria and Morocco arrive in South Africa on Friday as the next two teams to report for Africa Cup of Nations duty.

They are the third and fourth squad in the country for the tournament, following Angola and Zambia have already been ensconced in Johannesburg since just after Christmas.

Algeria are due to arrive by private charter but Morocco’s Atlas Lions are on a flight from France, to arrive at 11am according to Super Sport.

Morocco will be based in Johannesburg and have two friendlies planned before they meet Angola on the opening day of the Nations Cup at the National Stadium on January 19.

The home based players departed Morocco on Wednesday and spent a night in freezing Paris – where they were joined by Morocco’s contingent of foreign players – before traveling again on Thursday night.

Algeria will head straight from the airport to the Royal Marang Hotel at Phokeng, which is the headquarters of high-flying Platinum Stars.

The installation has several training fields, which Algeria will share with Stars, who return to training next week after the holiday season break.

They will also play against each other on January 16.

Algeria opened their preparations with a training session at the country’s technical centre at Sidi Moussa on Wednesday and then departed for South Africa overnight.
