Kagere rules out Rayon return
AMAVUBI Stars forward Meddie Kagere has ruled out recent speculations that have linked him with a possible return to Rwandan fooball to feature for six-time league champion Rayon Sport.
Kagere signed a two-year contract with Tunisian Premier League club Esperance Sportive de Zarzis last year has fallen out with the club after going three months unpaid due to financial constraints that have hit the relegation battling club.
“All is not going on well here in Tunisia. I have spent three months without a pay. No one is able to my question and i feel i want to leave this club,”
“I have asked for a release such that i can ply my trade elsewhere. I have not talked to Rayon Sport and if i don’t think i can turn back to Rwanda at the moment,”
“If i happen to get my release letter, i will head to Asia,” added Kagere.
Rayon Sport FC club secretary Olivier Gakwaya confirmed their interest in Kagere. “We had that Kagere is having tough times with his Tunisian club and we thought maybe we can talk to him and be able to influence him to come and play for us,”
“He is a good player and he would be of vital interest to the club which is plotting to win silverware this season,” added Gakwaya.
Kagere’s two-year deal at Esperance Sportive de Zarzis is valued at $150,000.
The Uganda-born striker passed trials with Esperance de Zarzis after trotting around the continent, doing test with South Africa’s Bidvest Wits FC and Pretoria Fc before heading to Tunisia.
The 26-year-old Amavubi international has spent two seasons at Police, scoring 28 goals in two Primus League seasons.
He has since become a regular for Amavubi and a talisman for Police, spearheading their good run in the last two seasons and often delivering. His goals were particularly instrumental in bringing Police within touching distance of their first league title this season as well as MTN Peace Cup.
He came into the lime-light when he guided Rwanda to the finals of the Cecafa Challenge Cup and went on to finish as joint-top scorer (five goals) at the tournament.
