Timbe may join URA

URA FC has turned down offers from foreign coaches, leaving Sam Timbe as the front runner to replace Alex Isabirye who resigned over the weekend according to Uganda’s New Vision.

Timbe, currently with Police FC has no binding contract with the Cops side he joined last season to save them from relegation. He has coached at Police, SC Villa and Tanzanian club Yanga FC.

“We cannot rule out Timbe but we are yet to hold talks with him. We do not want to rush in a pretext of solving issues, and find ourselves in more problems,” said URA chairman Ali Ssekatawa, adding that they had turned down coaching offers from a Canadian and a Zambian.

“The Canadian said he wanted to build his career and would work on a minimal pay, but we could not establish the ‘minimal pay,’ explained Ssekatawa.

Word going around indicated that the club had taken on Timbe on a two-year contract but Ssekatawa refuted the claims. He said a new coach will be named at least two weeks before the CAF Champions League encounter against Cameroon Cotton Sport next month.

Isabirye’s resignation came just days after team captain Simeon Masaba refused to wear the captain’s arm band citing the lack of respect and indiscipline among the players.

Trouble in the URA camp has been going on for some time and Isabirye only managed to keep his resignation letter for about a week, saying that he could not stand the intrigue by players and some executive officials.
