Rwandan officials meet former Arsenal boss
Rwanda’s football officials, Celestin Musabyimana and Celestin Ntangungira met and held football discussions with David Dein, former vice-chairman of English Premier League club on the sidelines of Africa Nations’ Cup final which ended on Sunday in South Africa.
Musabyimana is the CAF’s Media commission vice-president while Celestin Ntagungira is the president of Rwanda’s Federation of Football.
The meeting was meant to exchange on opportunities that Rwanda‘s Federation of Football could acquire from Arsenal in order to uplift standard of Rwanda’s football.
During their discussion, Dein was briefed on the current status of Rwanda’s league and the starting phase of trying to make it professional.
In the exchange, Dein was delighted to hear that there was a Rwandan called Alfred Mugabo in the Arsenal’s academy. Both parties discussed about his future in international football as well as possibility to include other Rwandans in the English second league.
Dein expressed his will to visit Rwanda to make a presentation or exchange on how other international leagues are organized and how technology in football operates nowadays.
He advised the Rwandan pair to organize a symposium on football in which he will be more than willing to participate. He will also contacts on individuals that would provide training on different related football matters. On this, he specifically recommended international training for Rwandan referees.
Concerning recruitment of young stars in the Arsenal youth development team, he advised that one could look at it when a proper assessment is completed.
The Rwandan officials were also briefed on the goal line technology which is being introduced in football.
Dein also expressed his sympathy to the support from President Kagame to Arsenal Team and to the football in general.
