Haruna to miss Burundi friendly tie
YOUNG AFRICANS midfielder Haruna Niyonzima is a notable absentee in Eric Nshimiyimana’s team which will face Burundi in a Fifa international match at prince Louis Rwagasore next Wednesday.
Haruna is part of Young Africans squad which hosts CAF Champions League reigning champions Al Ahly of Egypt this Saturday in their first round first leg match in Dar es Salaam.
The Tanzanian giants will then head to Cairo, Egypt for the return leg on March 8, three days after the scheduled Rwanda-Burundi friendly tie.
Head coach Nshimiyimana said on Thursday, “It is tricky to have Haruna in Kigali for the Burundi tie due to their continental engagements. We have not gotten any response from his club but what we know, they have put much interest in the Champions league tie against Al Ahly,”
The former APR and Isonga tactician also hit out at the continental governing body, Caf over the scheduling of Champions League and international friendly games in the same week.
“It is a tricky situation brought on us by them (Caf). It is not Young Africans’s fault. This is the reason why we didn’t even include any players from AS Kigali because of their engagement in the Caf Confederation Cup,” he said.
However, the other professional duo of defender Salomon Nirisarike [Royal Antwerp] and striker Elias Uzamukunda [AS Cannes] are expected to join camp on Sunday.
Nirisarike is expected to face Sint Truidin in a league match and will board the SN Brussels to Kigali on Sunday morning.
France-based striker Elias Uzamukunda will be making a return to the national team for the first time in four-years. The 22-year old last featured for the Amavubi in 2011 during the qualifiers for the 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers.
The forward is one of three is expected to be relied on for the upcoming preparation for the 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Meanwhile, the team started preparations on Wednesday but Police defender Fabrice Twagizimana failed to turn up and no reason was given by the formidable defender.
The technical staff is expected to engage him in bid to find out the real reason behind his delay to join the national team camp.
