Cazorla and Ramsey pen new Arsenal deals
Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey have signed new contracts at Arsenal, the club announced on their website.
Cazorla was influential as Arsenal shrugged off a difficult start last season to pip north London rivals Tottenham into fourth in the Premier League and was voted Arsenal Player of the Season.
Ramsey enjoyed an explosive start to the 2013/14 campaign, in which he scored 13 goals in 27 appearances before suffering a thigh injury in December.
Germany youth international Gedion Zelalem, 17, also signed a new deal. The midfielder featured heavily in pre-season and made his first-team debut as a substitute in Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Coventry in the FA Cup in January.
“Cazorla and Ramsey are absolutely key players for us, and this news is a boost to the whole club,” said Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.
“Gedion is very young of course, but he has shown already that he has fantastic promise, and we all look forward to his development with us.”
Arsenal are currently four points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea, but have a game in hand on their London rivals.
“I think we’ve shown so far this season what we’re all about and the direction that this club wants to go in,” said Ramsey.
“I want to be a part of that, and to be a part of something special at Arsenal. We have a great team which we believe can achieve great things.”
Cazorla added: “I have had a great time with the club since joining nearly two years ago, and I think that we can be a big player in competing for the top trophies in years to come and that’s important for me.
“I have already had lots of good moments here and hopefully there will be many more to come.”
