Robben signs new Bayern Munich contract
Netherlands star Arjen Robben has signed a new contract with Bayern Munich which lasts until 2017.
Robben, 30, scored the winning goal in last summer’s Champions League final as Bayern Munich completed an unprecedented treble-winning season.
Some predicted that Pep Guardiola would find no room for the winger after taking charge of the club but Robben has been a key figure under the Catalan, scoring 18 goals and claiming 10 assists in all competitions.
He has now been rewarded with a two-year contract extension which ties him to Bayern until June 30, 2017.
“I’m delighted we’ve now signed the new contract and I’ll continue pursuing trophies with FC Bayern,” he told the club’s official website.
“I’m now in my fifth season in Munich and there will be three more after this. There can be no better indication of how happy my family and I feel to be here and how much I enjoy playing for this club and with this team.
“I’m looking forward to the years ahead – and to plenty more trophies with FC Bayern.”
Robben joined Bayern from Real Madrid in 2009 and has been prolific during his time in the Bundesliga, forming a dangerous partnership with fellow winger Franck Ribery.
“We’re extremely pleased Arjen has extended his contract with us until 2017,” said Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
“Arjen is a magnificent player. He’s proved his worth to FC Bayern and not just in the Champions League Final at Wembley. Arjen is a fundamentally important member of the team and will now remain so for the years to come.”
