Rayon start talks with Amissi over new deal
Rayon Sports have started talks with impressive striker Cedric Amissi over the possibility of extending his contract amid reports that other clubs have expressed interest in signing the Burundian international striker.
The 23-year old, who has scored 10 league goals this season, signed for the Nyanza-based club under former coach Jean Marie Ntagwabira in August 2012. The contract ends in July.
According to Rayon Sports president, Theogene Ntampaka, the club is committed to handing the team’s assistant captain a two-year contract extension before the end of the season.
“Amissi is a key player for Rayon Sports and that is why we are interested in him for another two years. We have opened preliminary talks with his agent and hopefully, we shall reach a deal before the end of the season,” Ntampaka said.
Ntampaka noted, “There is information circulating in the media that other clubs are interested in signing him, however, no club has approached us to express interest.
There have been widespread rumours that Congolese champions AC Leopards, who eliminated Rayon from this year’s Caf Champions League are interesting in taking last season’s Rwandan league top scorer to Brazzaville.
When contacted, the former Prince Louis player acknowledged that indeed Rayon management has started talks with his agent, “It is true the club is interested in extending my contract but nothing has been agreed as talks are just starting.”
“We would have to see in which conditions and in sporting terms, what they propose before making a decision, but one thing for certain is that I won’t go just anywhere for the sake of leaving,” added the Burundian international.
