Rwanda | PLAYER WATCH: NIRISARIKE SALOMON PROPELS ANTWERP TO FIRST WIN
Rwandan defender Nirisarike Salomon played a full ninety minutes as Belgian second tier Antwerp FC grabbed the first win in their fixture against a resilient Eendracht Aalst at Bosuilstadion in Beurne on Thursday night. The two goals were scored courtesy of N. Hayen on the 27th minute and O.Benassar thirteen minutes from time to cap a memorable evening for the Great Old.
Nirisarike’s defending qualities were again outstanding on an evening which the home side managed to keep a clean sheet. Being the first day and the first in division 2 of the Belgian league, the result puts them second in the league behind Sint-Truiden who occupy the first seat on goal difference.
Nirisarike’s developments have been closely monitored by different coaches and his contribution in the U-20 national football team has been of great importance. He was on the score sheet against Namibia in Kigali for the second leg of the first round of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, a tie which the Rwandan team went on to win on aggregate. He was also instrumental against Mali in the second leg of the same qualifiers which Rwanda lost 3-0 and eventually dumped out.
