Peter Kagabo struck twice to help Police secure a 2-0 win over SC Kiyovu in a Primus National Football League match on Wednesday at Mumena turf.
Kagabo broke the deadlock on 32nd minute with a fine effort in a game that the visitors dominated from start to finish. He doubled the lead on 60th minute with brilliant strike.
Police will be thankful to keeper Alexis Nganza who made a string of fine saves to deny the old giants several chances that would have changed the score.
The brace helped him to top the goal scorer’s chart with 11 eleven goals scored this season.
The win ensured that Police remains on second position of the log with 37 points, one point behind leaders and title favourites Rayon Sport in 18 matches played so far.
The Cops side who were eliminated both from the Africa Confederation Cup and Peace Cup competitions recently has their title hopes firmly fixed on the Primus league title after years of failed attempts.
SC Kiyovu remains stuck on seventh position with 29 points.
Primus league action resumes on Saturday were traditional rivals APR and Rayon Sport will square-off at Amahoro stadium in a titanic battle as the pair seek to extend their quest for the title.
Police will take on Isonga at Kicukiro turf; Mukura host SC Kiyovu at Kamena grounds while relegation battling sides Marines and Etincelles will clash in a Western Province derby at Umuganda stadium.
