Real Madrid confirm Algerian tour
Spanish giants Real Madrid have confirmed they will travel to Algeria next year for a tour during which they will face a local side for a friendly match.
Organisers of the event Algerian telephone company Mobilis and Mediapro, owners of Los Blancos’ marketing rights, made the announced at a press conference in Madrid on Friday.
Initially announced to hold this summer and during the month of Ramadan, the event was put off following delays in finalising the contract.
A contract has been signed by the organisers and a date in May 2014 will be chosen for the event.
“We believe this time it will be for real and Algerian football lovers will be able to see this dream come true,” said Alberto Villa, director at Mediapro.
Former France international Zinedine Zidane, who is now one of Real’s assistant coaches, and Real’s forward Karim Benzema, are of Algerian descent.
The local club to play against Real Madrid will be selected from an online vote by supporters, organisers said.
Real Madrid top players are expected to participate in the tour, which is expected to yield millions of dollars to the Spanish side.
