Major General Jack Musemakweli has taken over the reign of 13-time league champions, APR FC ahead of the start of 2013/14 Turbo National Football League which gets underway this weekend.
Gen. Musemakweli replaces Maj. Gen. Alex Kagame who is reported to be in China on an official duty.
Confirming the development, the club’s spokesperson George Gatete said mid this week that Gen. Musemakweli will handle the club’s management affairs in the upcoming season.
The military side which has recruited heavily and is dubbed to be among favourites for the league title next season will open their league quest against Marines on Sunday at Kicukiro turf.
The club has made major recruitments which include striker Michel Ndahinduka from Bugesera, Ernest Sugira from AS Muhanga, Charles Tibingana from Victoria University in Uganda, Patrick Sibomana and goalie Olivier Kwizera, all from APR.
The club will also feature some of their academy players in bid to improve their competitive level such as Suleiman Kakira and Eric Rutanga among others.
After ending their reliance on foreign players, APR FC which decided to give a chance to their Rwandan born talents failed to win any silverware last year.
On the local scene, they missed on two trophies-Primus league and Peace Cup while on the foreign scene; the military side lost the Cecafa club title to Burundi’s Vital’O and the EAC Military Games title.
Despite a paining season for Andreas Spiers’ side, the youthful side is ready to bounce back and stage a successful season were their main mission will be to contend for Turbo league title against Rayon Sports, Police and SC Kiyovu who are the other favourite title contenders.
