Amavubi plans Cranes friendly on Oct. 15
RWANDA Football Federation, Ferwafa has confirmed their intention to request a friendly match against Uganda Cranes planned to be played on October 15 at Namboole National stadium.
The Ferwafa chairman Celestin Ntagungira said on Friday that the friendly match will be played as part of honouring the return leg against Cranes following their February 6 Fifa international match which was played in Kigali.
“We are formally set to request the international friendly match which should be played in Kampala on October 15,”said Ntagungira.
The friendly match will give Coach Eric Nshimiyimana an opportunity to identify his team for the Cecafa Challenge Cup scheduled to be held in Kenya from November 28 to December 12.
Having been edged out of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, Rwanda will be looking forward to doing better in the regional tournament where they reached the quarter final last year in Kampala.
In February, Cranes held Amavubi to 2-all draw at Amahoro stadium. The two sides were meeting for the first time since Uganda beat Rwanda 3-2 on penalty shootout, in the 2011 Cecafa senior Challenge Cup finals in Dar es Salaam.
Midfielder Said Kyeyune and Kenyan-based Dan Sserunkuma scored for Uganda as Meddie kagere and Patrick Sibomaba equalized for the hosts.
If the friendly tie is approved, Uganda Uganda Cranes will use international friendly to prepare for Cecafa and Africa Nations Championships (Chan).
Micho Sredojevic’s is currently preparing for an international friendly against Iraq which will be played next Wednesday in Jordan.
The Cranes are just from being ejected from the 2014 World Cup qualification by Senegal and hope to bounce back in Cecafa and Chan in South Africa in January.
