Gen. Musemakweli confident APR has chance on title
APR FC chairman Maj. Gen Jack Musemakweli believes his youthful troops has the potential to win the 2013/14 Turbo King Football League (TKFL) despite finishing last season trophy-less.
Gen. Musemakweli who took over from Maj. Gen. Alex Kagame restated that after giving chance to young Rwandan players to exhibit their talents, the club management remains convinced that they will perform better this season compared to last season.
“The young players have proven that they can play football to the highest level. We have streamlined everything that there is much motivation to help them excel,”
“We have set an annual budget for the club; salaries and bonuses will all be paid on time and all we request from the team is maximum points that will help the team win trophies this season,”
“We will always be available to monitor the players on a daily basis and we are hopeful our target of winning the league title this season will be achievable because we have the best crop of Rwandan players,”
“This generation needs constant follow-up and exposure and it’s only a matter of time, that APR Fc and Rwandan football in general will develop to a pleasing level,” added the former team manager and vice president.
For the last 19 years, APR Fc has never been relegation candidates but title contenders all through their stay in the Rwandan league and this year is not an exception.
After ending years using foreign players, last season, the Black and White side took the decision to use only Rwandan players.
Consequently, Rwanda’s most successful football club ended the season empty-handed for the first time since 1996.
But APR fc who have won 13 league, 8 peace cup and three Cecafa Kagame Cup titles respectively is set to launch a bright comeback when they face Marines Fc today at Stade de Kigali.
