Cranes in training
UGANDA Cranes head coach Serbian Milutin Sredojovic Micho has summoned twenty five to start training ahead of the Fifa international friendly against Amavubi due on November 15 at the Nelson Mandela stadium, Namboole ahead of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.
The team begun the drills at KCCA’s Lugogo Stadium last Thursday and will be training this Saturday.
The training sessions will help Micho asses several players he has not worked with before.
The Serb, meanwhile, stressed that Cranes players who have just returned home after running out of contracts with their foreign clubs were not guaranteed of places on the team ahead of Cecafa and Chan.
“There is no guarantee for former cranes players who have returned home that they will have automatic inclusion in the Chan squad,” he told Supersport.com.
“They have to satisfy me, they have to work hard for the position, everyone has the same chance for the upcoming Cecafa and Chan games.”
Micho intends to continue the player assessment process every Saturday and Sunday until his picks his final squad for Amavubi friendly as Cecafa team.
On the otherhand, Amavubi’s head coach Eric Nshimiyimana has revealed that the national side will commence training on November 11 since the Turbo King National Football League is still underway. A provincial list of the players that will feature in the friendly or at the tournament will be released a day before.
With the retirement of former skipper Olivier Karekezi from the Amavubi side, Nshimiyimana is expected to give an opportunity to youthful players and maximize the experience of Ugandan-born Meddie Kagere who will be playing in front of the Ugandan crowd for the first time since 2011 when he became a Rwandan by naturalization.
Uganda will be defending their 13th Cecafa title when the tournament kicks off on November 27 in Nairobi.
