Amissi’s treble puts Rayon on top
Midfielder Cedric Amissi scored thrice as Rayon Sport thrashed Esperaance 5-0, a win which put the Blues top of the Turbo King Football League on Boxing Day.
The victory over struggling Esperance saw the champions snatch the top spot for the first time this season, with 25 points, while their archrivals APR dropped to second with 24 points.
Burundian international Cedric Amiss scored first for the blues on the 12th minute, added a second on the half-hour mark, before completing his hat-trick on the 80th minute.
Rwandan international midfielder Djamar Mwiseneza scored the third goal on the 40th minute with his international teammate Meddie Kagere netting the other from the spot in the 52nd minute.
It was a result Didier Gomes Da Rosa’s side needed going into the New Year.
Esperance had a chance to score a consolation goal on 70th minutes after Moses Kanamugire Shukuru fouled Hassan Rugirangabo in the box but Hakim Mutabazi missed the resulting penalty.
Rayon Sports could have scored more goals in the second half had it not been for poor finishing by Cedric Amissi, skipper Faudi Ndayisenga, Mwiseneza and Kagere.
Esperance goalkeeper Gustave Higiro was also outstanding, saving his poor side further embarrassment.
Esperance also had a few chances to test Rayon goalie Jean Luc Ndayishimiye in the second half but Rugirangabo and Mutabazi fell short.
Elsewhere, , Etincelles drew 2-2 with SC Kiyovu at Umuganda Stadium.
Sam Ssimbwa’s Police FC humiliated lowly AS Muhanga 6-1 at Kicukiro ground; AS Kigali drew with Musanze FC 2-2 at Stade de Kigali, while Gicumbi played out a goalless draw with Marines in Gicumbi.
