National league champions Rayon Sports suffered a 1-2 defeat to Mauritania national team in a friendly match which was aimed at fine tuning them ahead of the CHAN finals in South Africa.
It was the first international warm-up game for Didier Gomes da Rosa’s team as they prepare for the 2014 Orange CAF Champions League campaign.
Strikers Fan Yacoub and Tarek Mohammed scored both goals through a penalty and a free header as Cedric Amissi curled in a brilliant free kick.
The Mauritanians leave for Kampala, Uganda on New year ahead of their scheduled friendly tie against Cranes on Thursday.
The match will leave Rayon Sports head coach Didier Gomes da Rosa will clear plans of rejuvenating his side before beginning their continental campaign in the second week of February – against the Republic of Congo’s AC Leopards in the preliminary round.
The return leg will be played in Kigali a week later.
The last time Rayon participated in the Champions League was way back in 2005 when they were eliminated so early in the tournament by DR Congo’s Motema Pembe.
Rayon Sports lead the local league halfway through the season.
