Yanga get 45 applicants, to pick coach in two days
Young Africans SC (Yanga) have announced that up to yesterday about 45 coaches from all over the world had applied to head the team in the second round of the Mainland Premier League, whilst the club leadership expects to make its pick early next week.
After Yanga sacked its technical bench towards the end of last month, the club has picked a new assistant coach, Boniface Mkwasa, and goalkeeping coach Juma Pondamali. The two have assured the training schedule of the team at the Bora Ground at Kijitonyama.
Yanga Information Officer Baraka Kiziguto said yesterday that coaches from Latin America, Europe, the Scandinavian countries and parts of Africa sent their curriculum vitae to the club in response to adverts for the post.
The club leaders are now working on received applications and in a few days they will make public the new head of the technical bench for the Jangwani Street side, refusing to give details on applicants as many of them still have contracts with their current clubs.
New assistant coach Mkwasa and goalkeeping coach Pondamali have been with the team for two days but they have started taking the side on stride, winning the confidence of the players, Kiziguto intimated.
Yanga decided to hire the former national team players owing to their success as players and as coaches elsewhere, he stated.
“The two coaches have an interesting background in Tanzanian football. They have had fantastic moments here with Yanga in the 1980s and put up considerable achievements,” the club official said in homage.
