AS Kigali women hammer Don Bosco
Defending champions AS Kigali inflicted a footballing lesson on Gatenga-based Don Bosco FC after they hit them helplessly 8-0 in the women national football league over the weekend to maintain their unbeaten streak in Pool A.
The City of Kigali-sponsored AS Kigali, still unbeaten since the start of last season, walloped the home team thanks to a brace from team captain Shadia Uwamahirwe, Marie Jeanne Nyirahashimimana, Judith Ingabire, Sophie Niyomugabo, Edith Umulisa, Alice Kalimba and Saida Ntagisanimana, who added one apiece.
“This was an easy victory for us than we expected, but the girls really worked for it. The focus is retaining the league title unbeaten like we did last season,” AS Kigali head coach Grace Nyinawumuntu said on Monday.
In other Pool A matches, Gakenge district-based Freedom FC beat Evening Stars 3-1, while Rambura narrowly won 3-2 ESIR.
AS Kigali lead Pool A with 15 points from five matches, six points ahead of second-placed Rambura, who have played one match less.
In Pool B, last season’s first runners-up The Winners won 2-0 against the league’s new entrants Atletico FC, Kamonyi formerly called Remera Rukoma, at their playground, lost 0-1 to Les Lionnes, while Inyemera hit Bugesera 3-0.
The Winners continue to lead Pool B with 13 points from five matches, followed by Inyemera with 11 points, while Les Lionnes and Kamonyi are third and fourth with 9 points respectively.
