Tardy urges U20 to up their game
THE Junior Wasps head coach Richard Tardy was not impressed as his youthful side lost a friendly match against Police which was held as part of preparations for the CAF African U-20 championships first round of qualification due in April.
Fabrice Twagizimana scored the lone goal for Police as the Junior Wasps struggled to find the net despite putting on an impressive performance with all the 24 players being given a chance to kick the ball.
“We have a lot of work to do in order to be able to challenge our opponents in the continental championships. We need to prepare efficiently because currently only 14 players are on the level of featuring in the upcoming qualifiers,”
According to Tardy, the junior wasps are effective n the midfield were he has formidable players in Robert Ndatimana [Rayon Sports], Muhamed Mushimiyimana [AS Kigali], Yannick Mukunzi [APR] and Hussein Cyiza [Mukura VS].
He pointed to lack of sharp strikers due to the inability to have ample playing time for some of his players in their respective top division clubs.
Tardy will assemble the Under-20 team again in March ahead of international friendly matches scheduled to be lined up before facing South Sudan in the first leg played in due in Juba while the return leg will be hosted in Kigali.
Rwanda will be looking to qualify for the 2015 African U-20 championships in Senegal from March 8-22 and so far 51 countries are in contention for 16 places.
Last year, Rwanda failed to go past the first round, losing 4-2 to Mali.
