National women team to play at Machakos
Africa Women Championship
Kenya vs. Rwanda
KENYA Football Federation [FKF] has shifted the venue for the return leg of the Senior Africa Women qualifiers between hosts Kenya and Rwanda from Nyayo stadium to Machakos Kenyatta stadium on Sunday.
Kenya will be seeking a bounce back in this match after losing by a solitary goal in the first leg match played in Kigali a fortnight ago.
In a statement, Football Kenya Federation Chairman Sam Nyamweya said, “The Machakos County Stadium is in good shape and as a federation it’s our noble goal to spread International matches to other stadia’s outside the city to enable Kenyans watch top flight football.”
In the first leg played in Kigali a fortnight ago, Rwanda won 1-0 with Remera Rukoma’s forward Alice Niyoyita scoring the lone goal of the match at Stade de Kigali, handing her side a slim advantage going into the second leg.
In the build-up to the weekend’s crucial encounter against the more experienced Kenya side, Grace Nyinawumuntu’s team was thrashed 6-0 by the national Under-17 boys’ team last Saturday at Ferwafa ground in Remera.
The former Rwanda international central defender will release the final 18-player team on Wednesday evening ahead of the team’s departure to Nairobi on Thursday.
The winner over the two legs will proceed to the next round to play Nigeria’ Super Falcons.
Meanwhile, Confederation of African Football [CAF] has appointed Botsalo Mosimanetala from Botswana, second assistant Bernadette Kwimbira from Malawi while fourth referee is Damaris Kimani from Kenya.
The match commissioner is Teruwort Woldemariam from Ethiopia.
Seven teams will emerge from the qualifiers to join hosts Namibia for the final tournament from 11-24 October, also a qualifier for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada next year.
