Rayon’s loss boosts APR’s title quest

THIRTEEN-TIME league champions APR surged to the top of the Turbo King Football league standings with a three-point difference over arch rivals Rayon Sport.
APR registered a slim 1-0 win over Mukura at Stade de Kigali on Saturday courtesy of Isae Isonga.
Twenty four hours later, Rayon Sport who were hoping to close the gap got a shock of the season as they succumbed to a 2-1 loss to Rusizi-based Espoir FC.
Kassim Habyarimana put the visitors ahead on 3rd minute before team mate Andre Lomami extended the lead on 40th minute.
Skipper Fuadi Ndayisenga converted a penalty on 61st minute to score a consolation goal for the blues.
Victory for Espoir helped them leapfrog AS Kigali and SC Kiyovu into third spot with 35 points while defeat means the Rwandan champions will likely have to beat APR at the Kigali Regional Stadium in two weeks time to have any chance of retaining the title.
Now title contenders APR retain leadership of the league standings with 66 points, three adrift of arch rivals Rayon Sports.
In other matches, Police moved to fourth position with 34 points after grabbing a 2-0 win over Etincelles away at Umuganda stadium. Jerome Sina and Moussa Mutuyimana were on strike as Sam Ssimbwa outfit recorded their tenth win of the season.
In Nyamagabe, AS Muhanga registered their third win of the season following a 2-0 win over hosts Amagaju. Ali Bizimungu’s side has now jumped to tenth position with 14 points, four points better than relegation battling side Amagaju.
SC Kiyovu dropped points against Marines after a 1-all draw. Kiyovu sit seventh with 33 points while Marines are eleventh with 14 points.
Musanze jumped into fifth place following a 2-0 win over Esperance in Musanze on Sunday. Esperance are in relegation zone, sitting thirteenth with 11 points.
