Bayern rule out Draxler swoop
Bayern Munich have ruled out a move for Schalke’s attacking midfielder Julian Draxler this summer.
There had been speculation that the Bundesliga champions would attempt to sign the Germany international in the summer transfer window, but Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has played down any possibility of a move going through.
“We are not buying any player from [Borussia] Dortmund or Schalke just to hurt these clubs,” he said.
“We are just buying players who can give FC Bayern more quality straight away. I can rule out that we will sign Julian Draxler in the summer,” he added.
The 20-year-old had been linked with a move to the Premier League during the January transfer window – with Arsenal the apparent frontrunners, though nothing came to fruition.
However, with Rummenigge stating that Draxler isn’t in Bayern’s future plans, the midfielder could be tempted into a move to English football’s top flight should the opportunity present itself.
