The Cops who had a blistering start to the season have so far managed eleven wins, five draws and five losses respectively.
They stand third with 38 points, just a point adrift the old giants who are ranked fifth with 37 points.
DR Congo neutralized Rwandan midfielder Jerome Sina aware of the huge expectations from their adoring fans, have asked his team mates to give it their all. “We have to maintain our form after winning last weekend to stage record another win,”
“We have to do our best today and beat them (SC Kiyovu). We are motivated and the rest of my teams are equally ready for the task,”
Assistant coach player Djabir Mutarambirwa is aware that a victory will catapult them to keep moving ahead on the standings. “We don’t have to lose points at this stage. We are working hard to ensure that we win all the remaining matches with SC Kiyovu inclusive,” said Mutarambirwa who moved from Kiyovu to Police last season.
The old giants under Coach Gilbert Kanyankole are also primed for the match. “We have prepared well for the match and we will not take our opponent lightly. We will give him the respect they deserve and play our usual football. Our aim is to win the match,”
Sam Ssimbwa’s side has shown all the attributes of a title challenging squad. They have been compact in all departments and the fine form of play maker Jerome Sina and D’amour Uwimana – will be crucial.
At Kiyovu, Julius Bakabulindi has been flourishing as the main target man, a feat which has seen him score ten goals in 21 matches and he is the deadly weapon that Kanyankole will be hoping to unleash on the Cops.
All sides have no injuries or suspensions, so fans stand a chance to enjoy a good game both clubs will be willing to exhibit.
Other matches lined up on Saturday include relegation battling Esperance host on-form Espoir at Mumena turf. Esperance sits at the tip of the table with 12 points while Espoir are seventh with 35 points.
It’s only Phocas Musabyimana whom Coach Emmanuel Ruremesha will miss as his counterpart Comarade Banamwana will be focused on snatching a fourth win for the club and edge out of the relegation zone.
In Gicumbi, Jean Baptista Kayiranga will hope to use home ground to defeat Amagaju so as to stay out of any danger as the league enters a crucial stage. However, Coach Godfrey Okoko’s guns will be all out for a win if they are to propel on the 13 points they hold in 21 matches played so far.
On Sunday, defending champions Rayon Sports host Etincelles at Kigali Regional stadium. The blues jointly lead the standings with 49 points, with a slim one goal difference over rivals APR whom they beat last weekend.
Coach Luc Eymael must avoid any slip-ups if he is to maintain the club’s bid of retaining the league title. However, the Belgian international must do the job without key players like Hussein Sibomana who is suspended and Karim Nizigiyimana who has joined the list of injured players with a knee injury.
Wounded arch rivals APR face Musanze in another tricky encounter at Kicukiro turf. Coach Vincent Mashami who has lost three key players Papy Siboamana and Isaie Isonga to injuries and lead striker Michel Ndahinduka to suspension must ensure a positive comeback and continue to press the blues in surge for the league title.
A win for Musanze will hamper APR’s chances of keeping pressure on Rayon Sports at the top of the table should also the blues manage to overcome Etincelles.
Musanze’s Wai Yeka will be a thorn in APR’s shaky defence which gave away goals easily in their last match against Rayon Sports.
In Rubavu, youthful Marines take on S Muhanga at Umuganda stadium. Both clubs sit 11th with 17 points each and a win for either side will bolster their chances of escaping any dangers of being relegated.
