Micho targets Afcon 2015
Uganda on Wednesday officially launched their road to Morocco 2015 Africa Cup of Nations by outlining their plans, and Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic is optimistic of making it this time.
The Cranes face an unenviable task of negotiating past four preliminary phase ties against opponents to be known at the 27 April draws and will have to play 10 games if they are to complete the entire qualification campaign.
The Cranes squad is expected to be announced on 30 April and enter camp on 7 May, just nine days before their first preliminary encounter.
“We have completed the World Cup qualification campaign, played in the development competition of Cecafa and Chan and we feel these have provided the necessary platform for our players to test ourselves,” said Micho on Wednesday.
“Now what we are doing is keeping on monitoring a group of players we have identified in their clubs. They are mentally and tactically strong. We want to have the cream to represent us and that will be reflected in the squad we shall name.”
The Cranes last appeared at the continent’s major showpiece in 1978 and although Micho is confident they can end that jinx, he knows it will not be easy.
“This time qualifying is much tougher and harder to enter the group stage than even to get out of the group,” added Micho, “But our target is now to go past the preliminaries and when we reach the group stage, we shall be ready for anyone thrown our way.”
