16 teams reach last eight in Airtel Rising Stars
SIXTEEN TEAMS in boys’ and girls’ categories have reached the quarter final stage of the Airtel Rising Stars U17 grassroots tournament.
The sixteen teams that stood above the dust in the regional knockouts will now compete in the semifinals to be held in Kigali next weekend.
The boys’ quarter final will be played on Saturday this week while the girls will take to action the following day.
The teams comprise of eight boys’ teams and eight girls teams with each region in the country being flagged by four teams, two for the boys and two for the girls.
In the boys’ category, the Northern Province will be represented by Rubavu FC and Bigogwe while the Southern Province will be flagged by Umurabyo FC and Rusizi United.
The Eastern Province will be represented by Gatsibo Academy and Kayonza Football Training Centre whereas Kigali City will have Play for Hope and Top guys.
For elimination in Kigali City, Play For Hope beat Dream Team 2-1, Top Guys hit Imparirwakursha 2-1, Play For Hope also managed to win 2-0 over the Top Guys at Kicukiro turf.
At Mumena Stadium Nyamirambo Youth Sports Center lost to Imparirwakurusha 2-0, Giti cy’Inyoni beat AS Kigali 4-3 penalties after both sides drew 0-0.
In other matches Dream Team Eleven Boys beat Shunning Stars on penalty shootout 4-2, after both sides finished game without looking for the back of the net. Play for Hope also beat Meilles Amies on penalty 6-4.
In Kayonza, Gatsibo lost to Abarashi 0-2, Intashya beat by Umurabyo 3-0, Gahara hit Imanzi 2-0, Gahini lost to Kayonza 0-1.Gatsibo won over Gahara 1-0, Kayonza beat Intashya1-0, Gatsibo win over Kayonza 6-5, stands for penalty.
In Southern Province Rusizi United drew with Nyanza 0-0 and win over for penalties 4-3. Umurabyo Fc won over Muhanga Fc 1-0; Rusizi United drew with Umurabyo Fc 0-0 before Umurabyo win on penalties 2-3.
In other matches Umurabyo F C beat OPDEI 3-0. Petit Irondele hit Centre 3-0 Rusizi United beat Youth Development 0-1. Nyanza Centre beat Gitwe 1-0 Gatagara won over Mugandamure 2-0,
In Northern Province Tiger Academy hit Kivu 2-0 Musanze lost to Tigre Fc 0-1, Bigogwe beat Lesabeilles 2-0, Juatoto win over Rwa155 3-2, Lionceax Fc beat Kinihira 2-0 and Rubavu hit Omega 3-1. While Rubavu drew with Tiger Tiger Academy 0-0 but Rubavu won by penalties 4-2 while Lionceaux Fc drew with Bigogwe 0-0 before losing 1-4 on penalties.
In the girl’s category, the Northern Province will be represented by Nyakiriba FC and Rwa 155 while the Eastern province will be represented by Kayonza FC and Abarashi Academy.
The Southern province will be represented by Mutara Ruhango and Nyanza
Feminine and Kigali will be flagged by AS Kigali and Young for Hope.
Draws for the semifinals will be conducted on Friday this week.
