Rwanda’s Starlets edge thriller, Remain unbeaten
The national U-19 team the Starlets continued to enjoy a stellar run in the Division 2 ICC U-19 tournament with a close 4 wicket victory over hosts and tournament favorites Zambia at the Metro cricket oval in Lusaka.
Zambia led by tournament runs leader Mario won the toss and decided to bat but the opener could only manage 15 runs as the host nation settled for a mere 74 runs with their middle order crumbling from a Starlets bowl attack led by Captain Don de Diev Mugisha who collected six wickets in 8.5 overs conceding only 29 runs.
The Zambian mid-order lost four wickets for 13 runs.
The starlets’ batsmen took time to find their feet as they chased the 75 runs needed as the top order could only manage 27 runs for 5 wickets. Perseverance of the remaining batsmen saw the Starlets achieve their target thanks to Eric Niyomugabo with a stellar 14 runs.
Rwanda top the table with maximum points ahead of second placed Tanzania and remains on course for qualification for Division 1 that also doubles as a world cup qualifier for the U-19 world cup set for India.
Tanzania is the other only unbeaten team left in the tournament.
