Mazembe edge rivals Vita to top spot

After a goalless draw against arch-rivals AS Vita on Sunday in Kinshasa, TP Mazembe ended top of Group A as they head to the semifinals of the Caf Champions League.

AS Vita played without their suspended striker Dady Birori. The player was last week suspended by Caf after he was found holding two different names featuring for his club team and another for the Rwanda national side.

Birori’s issue led to the disqualification of Rwanda from the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Yunus Junior Ssentamu, who scored the lone goal against Zamalek two weeks ago to qualify for the semis, failed to find the net this time round. The Ugandan striker kept the TP Mazembe defenders on their toes.

The two DRC Congolese teams finished with 11 point each, although the former African champions TP Mazembe have a better goal difference.
