Bale beauty grabs point for Spurs at Norwich
A wonder-goal from Gareth Bale gave Tottenham a 1-1 draw at Norwich City in an otherwise dreary Premier League encounter at Carrow Road.
Euro Sport reported on Thursday that the Welshman ran the ball from his own half, rode three challenges and fired an unstoppable drive past Mark Bunn with 10 minutes remaining.
Wes Hoolahan had given the Canaries the lead with a straightforward finish 32 minutes into a scrappy match in windy East Anglia.
Spurs had been poor but, following their equaliser, they suddenly moved up a gear, and they could have won it but for some fine goalkeeping from Bunn.
The result is Spurs’ third draw in a row as they extended their unbeaten league run to 10 matches. They lie fourth, one point ahead of Everton, while Norwich sit seven points above the relegation zone in lower mid-table.
Norwich had been the better side before Bale’s intervention, although it was not saying much.
It was a phenomenal strike, reminiscent of those he netted against Internazionale in the Champions League, and it boosted Spurs into a final effort to claim all three points.
A win would have been undeserved though, so it was with some relief for the home fans that Bunn was able to tip a Gylfi Sigurdsson drive – heavily deflected off Bassong – wide of the post.
