LLB Academic win 2-1 aggregate
Debutants Police FC were knocked out of the Africa Confederation Cup on their maiden appearance in the competition after playing a 1-all draw against visitors LLB Academic from Burundi in the second leg of the Preliminary round yesterday at Stade de Kigali.
The Rwandan side faced elimination 1-2 on aggregates after conceding an early goal which hindered their ambitions.
With a dissapointing first half, Saidi Kayumba grabbed a goal on the 30th minute to put the icing on the cake to give LLB Academic a comfortable sail through.
The result required Police FC to score three goals in order to be assured of passage but their performance didnt reflect their ability to march their target as they came second best in all departments.
LLB Academic’s players Idi Saidi Djuma, Kayumba and Claude Ndarusanze caused all sorts of problems for Police, dominating the game, winning aerial balls as well as setpieces.
The second half was not different as LLB Academic continued to dominate possession, winning the midfield with good aerial defence.
The introduction of Ernest Kwizera for Innocent Habyarimana, Eric Ndahayo for Peter Kagabo and Imran Nshimiyimana for Ibrahim Ndikumusabo paid off with a late consolation goal scored by the former AS Kigali striker Nshimiyimana on 85th minute.
Despite pressing hard for more goals in the dying minutes of the game, LLB Academic stood solid in their defence to end the game victors.
The win have sent LLB Academic to the first round where they will face DR Congo DC Motema Pembe.
Elsewhere, former African Cup champions Gor Mahia FC cruised to the first round after a powerful 5-0 away win over their hosts Anse Reunion of Seychelles. The two teams played to a barren draw in the first leg in Nairobi and Gor Mahia sailed through with a 5-0 goal aggregate win.
