m_Fifa warns DRC

Fifa has sent a formal notice to the Democratic Republic of Congo Minister of Sports to withdraw a circular dated November 28, 2012 that asked clubs playing in the domestic league to host all their games at state-owned stadiums.

Critics and local observers believe the measure was directed against four-time Caf champions TP Mazembe, who inaugurated a private sport facility early last year.

Fifa urged Minister Banza Mukalay Nsungu to reverse the decision or face possible sanctions, which could affect the national team as well as clubs involved in Caf competitions.

The Lubumbashi-based club’s 19, 500 all-seater stadium was certified by Caf in June 2012, a year after they acquired a second 140-seater McDonnell Douglas MD-80 plane.
