Hegman Ngoma scored APR’s sole goal on the 65th minute of their opening match against Elman of Somalia here in Al Fasher, North Darfur on Wednesday afternoon to walk away with the crucial win that puts them in an advantageous position to qualiy for the quarter finals.

APR will now look for a draw in their next engagement against Vital’o of Burundi on Friday as a minimum requiremennt for them to advance into the quarter finals of this year’s Cecafa Kagame Club Championship.

Meanwhile, the 2013 Kagame Cup kicked off in Kadugli, South Kordofan on Tuesday with pomp and colour with over 10 ministers and five Governors present, allaying fears of insecurity and rebel upsurge.

Three Ministers from Central Government in Khartoum and five others from North Dardur and South Kordofan graced the occasion at which traditional dancers and artists staged shows to open the 39th Kagame cup.

The Chairman of Cecafa Leoddegar Tenga and Secretary General Nicholas Musonye were in Kadugli overnight to ensure that the opening ceremony ran smoothly.

And addressing a press conference at the Kadugli Stadium, Tenga praised the countries who committed thmselves to honour the Cecafa and sudan invitation and lamented that some politics were being introduced in Cecafa that may undermine the ideals of the organisation.

Governor of South Gordofan and North Darfur paraded their traditional dancers who included a Hausa Fulani group from North Nigeria and another group from Mali.

Central Africa Republic was also represented.

Governor Haruna Mohamed of South Kordofan Haruna Mohamed said that his state was excited to host its major international competition and urged Cecafa to consider them in future.

He said South Kordofan believed in peace and Kagame cup 2013 was part of that process.

The Governor of North Drafur Ahmed Kibir who led his delegation at the colourful ceremony promised a grand finale on July 1st when his city of Al Fasher host the final match.

Eleven clubs from the region including Electric of Chad arrived in Sudan Monday ready for the showdown.
