RWANDA’S U-17 national team (Junior Wasps) endured a painful start to their Africa Nations’ Cup return as they lost 4-0 in the first leg of the first leg of the U17 qualifier against Uganda on Saturday in Kampala.
The Junior Wasps who went into the game seeking to end distressing two years of non-qualification to the biggest continental soccer fest came second best in all departments to their opponents Ugandan Cubs.
Shaban Mohammed opened the scoring as early as the 8th minute of the game in a match the Ugandan youngsters dominated.
Pius Obuya made it two by the hour mark before Julius Poloto tripled the Uganda Cubs’ lead by 66 minutes.
Second half Substitute, Musa Mukalazi capped the icing on Uganda’s already baked cake with a low drive two minutes to full time to grant Uganda a historic victory.
A win for the cubs in the return fixture puts a clash against Zambia with the eventual winner gaining entry in the youth continental championships to be held in Niger.
Rwanda needs a 5-0 goal margin to book a place in the second round on August 2 in Kigali.
