Rwanda vs. Mali

AMAVUBI team head coach Milutin Sredojovic Micho has summoned a full star-studded team which will face Mali forthcoming World Cup qualifier.

The wasps will host the Eagles of Mali in a Group H match of the 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifier at Amahoro stadium on March 24.

There was also a big change in the squad as local players had tough time penetrating into the national team due to the low competitiveness of the local league.

APR’s Jean Mugiraneza was the major culprit as he was dropped on poor fitness grounds while Barnabe Mubumbyi and defensive pair of Emery Bayisenge and Michelle Rusheshangonga were also ignored as they are nursing injuries and sickness.

Tunisia’s AC Bizertin forward Olivier Karekezi is listed as captain and leads a pool of foreign players who include Steven Godfroid [Union Saint Giloisse, second divison in Belgium], Solomon Nirisarike [Royal Antwerp, second division in Belgium [Haruna Niyonzima [Yanga, Tanzania], Elias Uzamukunda [AS Cannes, fourth division league in France], Jessy Reindorf [UR Namur, third division league in Belgium], Dady Birori [AS Vita, DR Congo] and Mbuyu Twite [Yanga, Tanzania].

The serb will assess the ability of every summoned player in next week’s international friendly match against Libya who will pitch camp in Kigali en-route to neighbouring DR Congo with whom they will face in a World Cup qualifier too.

Micho believes a victory against Mali will leave the team with a fighting chance of sneaking through to the next round although he admits that it is very difficult because it needs Rwanda to win her remaining three qualifiers convincingly.

Amavubi are currently placed bottom in Group H of the World Cup qualifiers with one point from two matches. They are behind leaders Benin who have four points while Mali and Algeria have three points each.

Amavubi will go into Mali’s qualifier well aware that anything short of three points will all but end their dream of playing in Brazil.
